PUCO, supplier certification and Ohio business contract review

PUCO resources help verify suppliers and understand regulated service. They do not replace reading the agreement or establish that every household protection applies to every commercial transaction.

Match the supplier named in the contract with the regulator’s current records for the relevant commodity. A familiar trading name or sales representative is not enough. Check the scope and current status rather than rely on an undated list in an article. This website does not claim that a supplier is currently certified merely because its name appears in an educational comparison.

Separate utility issues from supplier issues

A distribution outage, meter reading or tariff-classification question belongs with the delivery utility. A disputed supply price or termination clause may require a supplier explanation. Some questions involve both. Preserve the bill, agreement and correspondence so an escalation identifies the actual issue. Follow the regulator’s current complaint instructions where applicable instead of assuming every dispute uses the same route.

Read the terms that govern the business

Review authorization, start date, cancellation, renewal, fees and permitted adjustments. Ask which protections apply to the specific customer and agreement. Do not copy a residential cancellation period into a business recommendation without verification. If legal interpretation is material, obtain qualified advice rather than rely on marketing copy. The initial inquiry on this site does not authorize an enrollment.

Build an evidence trail before escalating

Write down the disputed amount, invoice date, contract clause and requested correction. Ask for a written response and retain case references. Avoid sending unnecessary personal or account information through an initial web form. An organized explanation is more useful than a generalized allegation about a provider. Keep factual uncertainty visible until documents resolve it.

A practical example

Illustrative explanation, not a customer outcome.

If an invoice includes a fee not visible in the pricing summary, compare the full agreement before concluding it is unauthorized. Ask the supplier to identify the clause and calculation; retain both the response and the original offer.
